Obituary of CARL LOUIS EDWARDSON

EDWARDSON: With great sadness we announce the death of Carl Louis Edwardson of Grand Bend, Ontario, on Friday, May 27, 2016, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, in his 95th year. A long time resident of Sault Ste. Marie, Carl moved to Grand Bend to be close to his daughter’s family in 2014. Beloved husband of the late Grace “Jill” I. (Gillian) Edwardson (2011). He is survived by his daughter Nancy Winters (Hank Winters); granddaughter Elizabeth Winters (Dave Matheson) and grandson Philip Winters (Gail Winters); great-grandchildren Lauren Cummings and William Winters and step-great-grandchildren William Matheson and Kaydence Matheson. The last surviving child of Ludwig and Anna Edwardson of Sault Ste. Marie, Carl was predeceased by eleven siblings. A veteran of WW II, he was proud to be have been trained at Clinton Air Force Base in Radar Mechanics and to carry out specialized work on radar for the RCAF, the RAF and the RAAF for two years in England. A man of Nordic character and sensibilities, he was a craftsman, a woodsman, and a golfer. He built quality homes. A fish farmer for years, he was especially pleased when the property was converted into the golf course he had envisioned. Only very recently did he give up on the idea of a summer of golfing. He would especially want to be remembered fondly by the senior members of the Superior View Golf Club. Carl lived an energetic and generous life with Jill, his wife of nearly seventy years, but found the five years between her death and his to be long and often empty. So it is with very mixed feelings that we send him to his rest: with gratitude, with sorrow and with love. A private family interment will take place during the summer at New Greenwood Cemetery, Sault Ste. Marie. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood.
