Obituary of Doris Alma Fielding

Doris Alma Fielding (nee Toogood), of Grand Bend, Ontario died peacefully at 98 years of age surrounded by her extended family, at Jessica's House Hospice, Exeter, Ontario on March 22, 2025.

 Doris, born and raised in Toronto, is predeceased by her parents Alma and Alexander Toogood, brothers John Howard Toogood (Jack), Alexander Edgar Toogood (Ted). Her younger siblings William (Bill) and Margaret predeceased her in childhood. Doris also had a half sister, Charmaine.

 As a teenager, Doris helped with the WWII effort as a Farmerette harvesting grapes in the Niagara Peninsula. She then became a nurse, graduating from Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Doris married Dr. Joseph William Fielding on January 21, 1950, in Toronto. She and her husband lived in Haworth, New Jersey and raised their children there. Every summer, without fail, they retreated to their cottage on Lake Huron's shores. 

Doris was the President of the New Jersey Chapter of the Women’s Club. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and English, Summa Cum Laude, from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Doris was a sculptress and received multiple awards for her art. Doris states her greatest accomplishment was raising her children. 

Doris is survived by:

Pamela Joan Fielding, son Ceilidh Shipley (Danielle, children Amelia and Lyon).

Bruce Robertson Fielding (Kathryn), daughter Stephanie Anne, son Matthew Robertson (Katrine Rivard, children Oscar and Felix), son Samuel Stuart (deceased).

Deborah Elizabeth Fielding (Kenneth Wesley Cubberley), daughter Victoria Jayne (deceased), son Dr. Charles Wesley Cubberley (Marlee Brown), daughter Elizabeth Alexandra Cubberley.

Cameron Alec Fielding (infant, deceased).

Victoria Alma Murray (Gregory Joseph John, deceased), son Russell James (deceased), daughters Shannon Alma, Alexis Patricia, and Carlyn Rose (Richard Jackson).

  Doris graced us with her presence for close to 100 years. A gift which will be everlasting.

Visitation at  T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood,  on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm. The Funeral service will be held

at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ontario St. N. Grand Bend, on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 12 noon, with Rev. Jim Innes officiating. Doris's cremation and later interment will take place at Parklawn Cemetery, Toronto where she will rest with her infant son and husband.
