Obituary of Dr. Mark William Raithby

RAITHBY: Peacefully, on Sunday, April 15th, 2001 with his family at his side, Dr. Mark William Raithby dies at his home, Woodland Gardens, Southcott Pines, Grand Bend, Ontario, in his 69th year. Husband of Zoie Helene (Hughes) Raithby. Father to Scott and Carol Lynn Raithby, Belleville, Ontario, Wade and Deborah Raithby, Courtney, B.C., Laura Raithby and Thom Walpole, Grand Bend, Ontario. Also “Dad” to Carolina Tapia of Toronto and Maribell Padilla of Venezuela. “Bobby” to his grandchildren Jordan and Sidney Faye, Belleville, Ontario, Christopher, Heather and Lisa Raithby, Courtney, B.C. Step grandpa to Emma, Ellen and Elissa, Guelph, Ontario. Brother of Elizabeth and her husband Dr. Gerald Jelly, Peoria, Illinois. Brother-in-law to Nancy Raithby, Campbellville, Ontario, Doug and Elaine Hughes, Prince George, B.C., Bev and Faye Hughes, Red Deer, Alberta. Uncle to George, John, David Raithby and Pam Rennie. Predeceased by his parents, Professor George E. Raithby and Nora Raithby, brother Jack Wade Raithby, and Father and Mother-in-law Ronald and Daisy Hughes. Mark obtained a B.Sc. Agriculture in 1955 and a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1959. He practice Veterinary medicine in Lucknow and Goderich, Ontario before obtaining a position with the federal government, specializing in contagious diseases. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Moca Temple, Bluewater Shrine Club, Probus Club and Rotary Club. Mark served on board at Grand Bend United Church and Southcott Pines Association until his illness. A memorial service to celebrate Mark’s life will be held on Sunday, April 22nd at 2pm Grand Bend United Church, Main Street, Grand Bend, Ontario. Gathering to follow at Southcott Pines ClubHouse Lakeview Avenue. Donations to the George Raithby Memorial Fund, University of Guelph, Grand Bend United Church or a charity of choice.
