Obituary of Alexander John Chapman Leatherland

LEATHERLAND: Peacefully, with his loving wife at his side, at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, on Friday, January 3, 2003, Alexander John Chapman “Alex” Leatherland of Grand Bend, formerly of London, in his 72nd year. Loving husband of Elizabeth “Liz” (Currie) Leatherland. Special dad and mentor to son David Leatherland, London. Alex also leaves his faithful dog and companion “Jaysi”. Will be missed by David’s partner Louise Carrier and her sons Lawrence and Christopher; God-daughter Staci Leatherland, Milton. Dearest brother of Jimmy Leatherland, Hamilton; Claudine Gisin, Owen Sound; Margaret (Glen) Gallinger, R. R. #3, St. Marys; Jeffrey (Shirley) Leatherland, R. R. Dorchester; Moira (Carm) Brunskill, London; Ken Leatherland and partner Joan R. R. #4, Mount Brydges; John (Joan) Leatherland, R. R. #3, Petrolia; Carolynne (Bob) Worrell, Elkton, Maryland; Ron (Margaret) Leatherland, R. R. #1, Mount Brydges. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by parents James and Mary (Agnew) Leatherland, siblings Frederick, Barbara, Sheila, Brian and Karen. Alex was a proud former Officer with the London O.P.P. He retired from Grand Bend O.W.R.C. as a control operator in 1992. An avid original member of the Model Airplane Association of Canada (M.A.A.C.), car and sports enthusiast, past member of Zurich Has Beans Old Timers Hockey Team and life member, former executive and dedicated volunteer of Branch No. 498 Royal Canadian Legion, Grand Bend. At Alex’s request there will be no funeral service. Cremation with private family committal at a later date. Friends are invited to share cherished memories with the family at the Royal Canadian Legion, Grand Bend, on Sunday, January 5, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association, Liver Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated. Heartfelt thanks to our family, friends and neighbours for their concern and support. Special thanks to the staff of South Huron Hospital, Grand Bend Medical Centre, ambulance personnel, V.O.N. and Com-Care. Deepest appreciation to Dr. Liam O’Connor for many years of care and attention. A tree will be planted in his memory. Rest in peace my love. Liz T.
