Obituary of Herbert Walter Turkheim
TURKHEIM: Unexpectedly, after a brief illness, at London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital, Wednesday, July 5, 2006, Herbert “Herb” Walter Turkheim, age 79, of Grand Bend, formerly of Zurich. Loved father of Doug Turkheim and companion Kim Simpson of London, Cheryl and Garry O’Brien of Grand Bend, Dan and Julie Turkheim of Exeter, Lori and Mike Tieman of Grand Bend, Donna and Bob Finch of Brantford. Predeceased by infant son David. Loving papa of Nicole and Britt Gunn, Brad Turkheim and companion Jen Barclay; Craig O’Brien; Scott Turkheim, Amy Turkheim; Ashley, Rachel and Sarah Finch and extended grandchildren Laura and Shaun Gunness and Mitchell Tieman. Great-papa of newborn baby Connor Gunn and Gavin Gunness. Fondly remembered by special friend Shirley Tieman of Grand Bend. Dear brother of Ruth Neve of California. Remembered by his many nieces, nephews, their families and his children’s mother Joan McKinnon of Zurich. Predeceased by his parents Rev. Ernest and Anne (Vierth) Turkheim, brother Jack, sisters Lottie Gascho, Gertrude (Bowden) Greenfield, Irene Carr and Ellen Batstone. Resting at the T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, with visitation Saturday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.; where the funeral service will be held Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ann Krueger officiating. Cremation. If desired, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society or charity of choice would be appreciated. Herb was former owner and publisher of Zurich Citizens News and the Advance, past chair and trustee of Huron County Board of Education, longtime member of Zurich Lion’s Club, Zurich Chamber of Commerce, Municipal Councillor and Volunteer Fireman for the Village of Zurich, co-founder of Zurich Bean Festival, former coach, referee, umpire and supporter of sports at various levels and most recently member of Grand Bend Probus Club and Grand Bend Legion.
