Obituary of Dorothy Whittier

WHITTIER: Peacefully, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Dorothy Caroline (Wein) Whittier of Exeter, Ontario, age 99, passed away at the Westmount Gardens LTC., London, Ontario.  Beloved wife of the late Angus Charles “Chic” Whittier (1997).  Dearly loved mother of Susan Elizabeth Whittier and Margaret “Maggie” Ellen Nicolson of London, John and Jocelyn (Hummel) Whittier of Calgary. Loved grandmother of Melissa (Whittier) and Oliver Carusone, Molly Nicolson Fawcett and Haldan Fawcett, Danielle Whittier, Andrew “Charlie” Whittier and Raymond Whittier.  Great-grandmother of Fern Fawcett, and George and Lily Carusone. Dear friend of Robert “Bob” Hood. Predeceased by her son Robert Charles Whittier (2008), siblings Erma Wein, and brothers Raymond, Carl and Robert Wein, and her parents Herbert and Hilda (Rader) Wein. Dorothy leaves behind many nieces and nephews who remember her fondly.  Dorothy, a maternal figure to her late brother’s daughter, leaves behind, Lee (Wein) West. And soon to formally join her family, Dorothy leaves behind Matthias Walle, fiancée to her granddaughter Danielle Whittier and Bethany Ly, fiancée to grandson Andrew “Charlie” Whittier. Born in Dashwood, Ontario, February 4, 1925, Dorothy attended high school in Exeter, Ontario, followed by nursing school at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario.  She met her husband Chic while working as a nurse in Deep River after the second world war.  They married in the Dashwood Lutheran church in 1948 and as the family grew, they moved from Montreal to Deep River, later to Peterborough and eventually Mississauga.  Dorothy was a loving mother and dedicated nurse, who worked part-time while raising her family. She was an accomplished artist and produced many fine oil and water colour paintings, which continue to adorn the walls of her family and friends.With heavy hearts we say goodbye.  Dorothy was well loved and will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, on Friday, November 08, 2024 at 11 am.  Interment Exeter Cemetery.  Memorial donations to charity of choice would be appreciated. Close to Dorothy’s heart and associations she supported regularly were the Friends of Schizophrenics now named Institute for Advancements in Mental Health (IAM), Diabetes Canada, and the Canadian Heart and Stroke Association.
